Sacred Heart Primary School Exhibition

Myself and Abi introduced the pupils in Year 1 to the very exciting theme of Magical Creatures.

An open-ended pedagogy helped to engage pupils in creating in a non-restrictive way, ultimately allowing risk taking to come to the fore. This helped pupils to not only develop their problem solving skills, but also their fine and gross motor skills.

"I would definitely use this approach to teach art - every table had an aim and all the children really enjoyed it."
- Ms Langford (CT)

The Pupils were able to develop their skills in a variety of activities which were set out in a carousel. Pupils remained engaged for the full 3 hour session as the activities were no longer than 20 minutes. The short and quick paced activities thus allowed pupils to 'have a go' even if they were reluctant at first.

At the end of each session a 'mini-gallery exhibition' was produced to display all of the pupils' creations. This gave the pupils a chance to view the work that their peers had created, hence giving a sense of accomplishment and a chance to reflect on all their hard work!
